Hang your byobu on the wall!

If you're handy with a hammer, grab a partner and get ready to hang.  Simply choose the color and size of the clips for your Japanese folding screen.  If you'd rather not do it yourself, feel free to give our kit with instructions to your installer for a worry-free project.

These screen clips provide a very safe and tasteful way to mount folding screens with minimal distraction. They provide support at just the right places without extra bulk - keeping things looking clean and modern.

Trusted by museums, art galleries, installers, and collectors for over 25 years.

This 3-Panel Screen Hanger Kit includes:

4 Top Clips  ·  4 Bottom Clips  ·  Nails  ·  Installation Instructions

Installing a 3-panel Japanese screen (byobu) with screen clips:

  1. Position your bottom row of screen clips in the center of each panel and at the left and right edge. Use the double sided positioning tape on the back of the clips. Once they are level and straight, nail them into place. Place the screen in the channel created by the screen clips.
  2. Have someone hold the screen in place (place pressure along the folds where there are wooden supports beneath the paper/silk). Use a tissue or soft cloth to protect the surface from oils on your hands. Slide the top clips over the top edge, placed at the same positions as the top clips.

The installation is complete!

Advice on SIZE

The channel of each Standard and WIDE screen clip measures 3/4" deep. This accommodates most traditional Japanese screens with lacquer edging and is suitable for most installations.

Size Options - Standard, Wide, or Large Wide Screen Clips Large Screen Clips

If your screen is damaged or weak, we recommend our WIDE or LARGE size screen clips to provide a wider base of support at each hinge, 5" wide instead of the standard 3" wide.

If your screen is thicker, we recommend our LARGE size which has a 1" deep channel.

Advice on WEIGHT

Is your screen over 30 pounds?  We recommend using our steel brackets.

These screen clips support traditional Japanese 2-Panel Screens (with traditional construction) up to 5ft tall and 5ft wide.

We recommend our WIDE or LARGE size for big 2-Panel Screens which are larger than 48" tall and/or 48" wide.

Advice on ColorAdvice on Color

For a standard screen with a black lacquer edge, we recommend using black screen clips. If your lacquer edging is a natural wood, orange, red, or other color, we recommend our clear screen clips.

How to Hang a Japanese Folding Screen:
The Ultimate Mounting Kit

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Position your bottom row of screen clips, in the middle of each panel. The double-sided tape will allow you to adjust the placement of each clip until it’s level and straight. Nail into place. Lift with a partner to place the screen in the channel created by the screen clips.
  2. Have someone hold the screen in position - apply minimal pressure along the fold where there are wooden supports beneath the paper/silk. Use a tissue or soft cloth to protect the surface from oils on your hands. Slide the top clip over the top edging, parallel to the bottom clips and nail into place.
  3. Position the side clips, one at either end in the center of the screen height and nail it in place. The installation is complete
